There was a chance for two countries from same continent(Germany and Netherlands) to enter final in this FIFA world cup. But, Argentina entered the final instead of Netherlands.

Let me list out the FIFA world cup finals in which two countries from same continent faced each other. Correct me if any wrong.

2010: SPAIN vs NETHERLANDS 1–0
2006: ITALY vs FRANCE 1–1(5–3p)
1974: WEST GERMANY vs NETHERLANDS 2–1
1966: ENGLAND vs GERMANY 4–2
1954: WEST GERMANY vs HUNGARY 3–2
1950: URUGUAY vs BRAZIL
1938: ITALY vs HUNGARY 4–2
1934: ITALY vs CZECHOSLOVAKIA 2–1
1930: URUGUAY vs ARGENTINA 4–2

1950: Uruguay Brazil was not in fact a final, it was a round robin group of four. –  gbianchi Jul 10 at 13:35

@gbianchi, yes you're right. that is why I didn't put any goals count in that. –  Sports Fan Jul 10 at 13:43

@gbianchi maybe just include the fact that the game was not a final match in the table for more clarity –  alamoot Jul 10 at 23:03

Actually, it's much more easier to count the one NOT on the same continent.

1958: Brazil v Sweden 5-2

1962: Brazil v Czechoslovakia 3-1

1970: Brazil v Italy 4-1

1978: Argentina v Netherlands 3-1

1986: Argentina v West Germany 3-2

1990: West Germany v Argentina 1-0

1994: Brazil v Italy 0-0(3-2)

1998: France v Brazil 3-0

2002: Brazil v Germany 2-0

They're 19 World Cup, 8 has different continent. 11 came from the same continent.

Cute fact: When it's different continent match, somehow it's either Argentina or Brazil ;=)

"Cute fact: When it's different continent match, somehow it's either Argentina or Brazil" - Well, as cute as the fact is, it isn't so unlikely, seeing that those are the best South American teams and to be honest, North America, Africa and Asia are pretty much out of discussion. Though, I would have guessed Uruguay to show up, at least in the earlier cups, but then it was probably a South America only match. –  Christian Rau Jul 10 at 8:36

Can anybody explain how Brazil, Germany, France, Italy, Argentina, Czechoslovakia are in same continent? –  Sports Fan Jul 10 at 10:04

@SportsFan read the explanaion: he listed the finals with teams NOT from the same continent. –  Phab Jul 10 at 10:14

@Phab, but the question is different. –  Sports Fan Jul 10 at 10:15

@SportsFan I know, but he said " it's much more easier to count the one NOT on the same continent" and listed them. So if you recognized this, I don't understand how you even get the idea the countries you've listed are in the same continent. –  Phab Jul 10 at 10:28
